Becoming independent and learning to chill Lessons from a graduating Hultian

I think it is the people, dont you?   I couldnt agree more, Alik. This was part of an exchange I just recently had with a friend about what makes Hult, Hult. I am graduating in less than a month. If you have have been through this process or know someone who has, youll understand the pressure and work that comes with it—from making sure you have all your academic credits in order, to finding new accommodation, to landing  THE job that will give you the future everybody seems to be after. I am writing this blog as one of my final activities as a masters student. Looking back at my year at Hult, it dawned on me how easy this process I just described has become. Or rather, how the  people have helped to make it easy for me. Chill, dude! Those who know me at Hult know about my daily calendar appointments and alerts for the different hats I wear at school. Along with classes, I was heavily involved in extracurricular activities and roles, from being a Global Ambassador to working with the Alumni and Corporate Relations team. I spent a considerable amount of time working side by side with Vaibhav Rustagi and Olga  Ivanova who lead that team in London. They had a big positive impact on my experience, especially when they reminded me to take a step back and  chill. I was literally chilling at Hult London back in February. If you are thinking of joining the Hult family, find yourself those people. Someone who, amidst all the chaos of finishing assignments on time, prepping for interviews, and moving in or out of your apartment, will turn around and tell you to chill out and embrace the experience. A year does go by quite quickly, and I have learned to enjoy every part of the journey as a graduate student. Professor Alek’s Crystal ball To all of the students who have taken Principles of Accounting with Professor Aleksander Grzeszczak, you know what Im talking about. About halfway through our first sessions in the fall, Professor Alek mentioned the infamous crystal ball, jokingly using it as a metaphor for some traders who often act as though they can predict the future. No one can predict the future.  And rightfully so—no one should. And no, you are not an exception to the rule. Stop making assumptions or thinking something should happen because of some previous circumstance. Stop basing yourself on what might be and get down to work. It is okay not to know the future right now. The answer is within YOU. Ironic in a way, job searching is an actual job in itself. As I prepare to walk across the stage and receive my diploma during our graduation ceremony, I am also preparing for my next step in life. I remember my first brief meeting with my Career Advisor in September. The session lasted about four minutes (by the way, your normal meetings will be about 30 minutes). Nevertheless, I learned a valuable lesson from my advisor then. It was very simple and straightforward, and it still applies today: it is okay not to know everything. It does not automatically mean you have less ambition than someone who already has it all figured out on paper. Similarly, my coach today, Julie, has been with me every step of the way during my job search, making sure I am always looking within me. This made me realize that, although the people around you play a vital role, it does, ultimately, all come down to you. And actually, if you have the right people around you, they will make sure you realize it is all within you too. Its all about the people: with a few of my fellow Global Ambassadors. So, how do I summarize the lessons I learned from my Hult experience? Chill and stop assuming—the answer is within you. And it truly is all about the people you surround yourself with. What Are the Visual Arts

The visual arts are those creations that we can see rather than something like the auditory arts, which we hear. These art forms are extremely diverse, from the artwork that hangs on your wall to the movie you watched last night. What Types of Art Are Visual Arts? The visual arts include mediums such as drawing, painting, sculpture, architecture, photography, film, and printmaking. Many of these pieces of art are created to stimulate us through a visual experience. When we look at them, they often provoke a feeling of some sort. Within the visual arts is a category known as the decorative arts, or craft. This is art that is more utilitarian and has a function but retains an artistic style and still requires talent to create. The decorative arts include ceramics, furniture making, textiles, interior design, jewelry making, metal crafting, and woodworking. What Are The Arts? The arts, as a term, has an interesting history. During the Middle Ages, the arts were scholarly, limited to seven categories, and did not involve creating anything for people to look at. They were grammar, rhetoric, dialectic logic, arithmetic, geometry, astronomy, and music. To further confuse matters, these seven arts were known as the fine arts, in order to distinguish them from the useful arts because only fine people—those who did not do manual labor—studied them. Presumably, the useful arts people were too busy being useful to require an education. At some point in the ensuing centuries, people realized there was a difference between a science and an art. The phrase fine arts came to mean anything that had been created to please the senses. After losing the sciences, the list then included music, dance, opera, and literature, as well as what we think of as the visual arts: painting, sculpture, architecture, and the decorative arts. That list of fine arts got a little long for some. During the 20th century, the fine arts were split up into further categories. LiteratureVisual arts (e.g., painting, sculpture)Auditory arts (e.g., music, radio drama)Performance arts (can combine the other categories of arts, but they are performed live, such as theater and dance. Note the plural to distinguish it from performance art, which is performed art that is not theater.) Visual arts can also be subdivided into graphic arts (those done on a flat surface) and plastic arts (e.g., sculpture). What Makes Art Fine? Within the world of the visual arts, people still make distinctions between fine art and everything else. It really does get confusing, and it can change, depending on who youre speaking with. For instance, painting and sculpture are almost automatically classified as fine arts. The decorative arts, which are at times exhibit a finer nature and craftsmanship than some fine arts, are not called fine. Additionally, visual artists sometimes refer to themselves (or are referred to by others) as fine artists, as opposed to commercial artists. However, some commercial art is really wonderful—even fine, some would say. Because an artist needs to sell art in order to remain a working artist, a strong argument could be made that most art is commercial. Instead, the category of commercial art is typically reserved for art created to sell something else, such as for an advertisement. This is exactly the kind of wording that puts many people off of art. It would really simplify matters if we could all just stick with visual, auditory, performance, or literary when we speak of the arts and eliminate fine altogether, but thats now how the art world sees it.

The roles and responsibilities of these programs are directly related to the level of which the program operates. This Official Army Game, therefore reaches its intended audience of the computer savvy generation that has begun to emerge. The purpose is to get these young people to play this game, so that their interest in signing up and doing the real thing might grow. In my case however, because I only play these games because Im too lazy to do the real thing, this method might not be so effective. But the army even has that base covered by stating that just by playing their new game you can Gain experience as a Soldier in the U.S. Army, without ever leaving your desk. The scene it portrays appears to be a desert campaign, so there may also be an implied pull here at recent events in the Middle East. Therefore there may be more than just a fun appeal here, but also a type of appeal to political beliefs and interests. Overall, the U.S. Army most successfully uses the emotion of patriotism as well as the Armys reputation to successfully appeal to its intended audience. They made their message even more appealing, by presenting the message over a wide medium, which is the World Wide Web. By expanding their audience to sports lovers, marksmen, and the online game players of today, they will gain that much more coverage and attract that many more recruits. These reasons would be enough for me to join if I didnt have any other reasons not to do so. Personally, I feel I owe my country so much for the freedoms it provides me, and the army for protecting those freedoms. I feel a strong sense of duty to serve my country, and I almost enlisted the day the towers fell, but an even deeper emotion runs through me, and that is toward my mother. Because she is truly the one who provides me with all that I have, and if she had let me go that day, I would have. Needless to say, she did not, and so I am here. My mother says I can serve my country better this way.
